The 11th annual New York Shorts International Film Festival features 7 days of exceptional international films screening from October 21 -27, 2022 at the Cinema Village Theater, 22 E 12th St, New York 10003.
The festival has selected over 340 films worldwide to participate this year, in addition to unparalleled events featuring acclaimed industry guests. The festival has a tradition of discovering filmmakers who have gone on to receive industry accolades.
New York Shorts is committed to bringing people together in the theatrical experience in New York City. The festival has established a reputation for amplifying under-represented cinematic voices celebrating diverse stories from around the globe.
Tickets are $17 for individual film programs which go on sale October 13, from the festival website www.NYshorts.net
New York Shorts digital edition is presented by The Shorts Network, with films available on-demand October 1 -31, 2022 at The Shorts Network Channel. All-Access Film Pass during the month of October is $24.99 details are available at NYshorts.net. We believe that the festival digital experience is an important part of providing short film access to audiences worldwide.
The 2022 New York Shorts will host Industry screenings, special events, talks, retrospectives films, and tributes with honored guests.
The festival will kick off with a Filmmaker Meet & Greet, Thursday, October 20th 8:00 p.m. at the East Village neighborhood hotspot Ace Bar.
Festival highlights include:
Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin's will screen his new sci-fi short film "Night of the Cooters" directed by and starring Vincent D'Onofri with an ensemble cast that includes Hopper Penn and Harrison Page. Saturday, October 22, 1:00 PM
A tribute to legendary film director Bob Giraldi. This special program includes three of Bob Giraldi award winning short films followed by a one-on-one conversation spotlighting his career that includes music videos (Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”, Pat Benatar’s "Love is a Battlefield), films ("Dinner Rush") and commercials. Beyond The Screen with Oscar® winning documentary director Ben Proudfoot, 2022 Academy Award® for the documentary short film The Queen of Basketball. Proudfoot was nominated for the 93rd Oscars for his short doc A Concerto Is a Conversation in partnership The New York Times’s Op-Docs anthology Almost Famous. Film Retrospective of producer/director Kim Magnusson recipient seven Academy Awards® nominations and three Oscar wins for short films. The film program includes Live Action Short Film Oscar® winners “Election Night” (1999), “This Charming Man” (2002) and “Helium” (2014). Tuesday, October 25, 1:00 PM
Tribute to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who worked on more than 30 feature-length films, short films, and TV miniseries. .The film program includes the Halyna’s recent short film “I Am Normal”. We will announce the first recipient of the Halyna Hutchins Cinematographer Award. Thursday, October 27, 1:00 PM

Since its beginning, NY Shorts has screened some of Britain’s best talent with the World Premiere of "Derek" by Ricky Gervais in 2012. This year is no exception with a total of 21 short films from the United Kingdom.

Chris Overton
An Academy Award® winning director/producer, founder of Slick Films, and a member of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Chris made his directorial debut with 'The Silent Child’, for which he received the Academy Award® for Best Live Action Short.
Kia Brooks
Deputy Director at The Gotham Film & Media Institute (formerly IFP).
She oversees the organization’s programming, membership and marketing. Prior to her role as deputy Director, she was the Director, Membership & Strategic Partnerships at the Made in NY Media Center by IFP.
Sam French
An Oscar-nominated filmmaker and founding director of the documentary production company Development Pictures, Sam’s work has appeared on HBO, BBC, CNN, Channel 4 News, Al Jazeera, National Geographic, and other broadcast outlets. Sam wrote and directed the Academy Award® nominated short film “Buzkashi Boys,” which was the first narrative film since 2001 to be filmed entirely on location in Afghanistan.
Anita Svingen
Festival Director, Kortfilmfestivalen / The Norwegian Short Film Festival, Academy Awards® Qualifying. Anita joined The Norwegian Short Film Festival, Norway’s second longest-running film festival for the first time in 2006 and is now Executive and Programming Director. She worked previously for many years in TV production and was Head of Programming for Norwegian SBS Radio.
New York Shorts is qualifying film festival for the Canadian Screen Awards, presented by The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
Award winners will be announced Friday, October 29 at 7:00pm during the closing reception held for filmmakers.
